My conceptual practice is significantly shaped by my life experiences, which serve as a lens through which I explore the nature of my connection to place. This exploration involves an in-depth examination of my relationship with both Australia and England, encompassing their historical and cultural context, contemporary state, and the natural environment.
My artistic practice includes arts-informed research within culture and society, as well as practical research in sculpture, painting, music, video, multimedia, and the limitless possibilities of merging diverse mediums and materials to construct conceptual and aesthetic frameworks. Experimentation plays a significant role in my ideation process as it involves exploring various elements, such as textures and bright hues contrasting with muted tones. Furthermore, the creation of engaging soundscapes adds to the development of my conceptual practice and artwork with the ability to energise and excite listeners in a public context.
In my current paintings I've merged vibrant colour symbolism with serious themes underpinning the artwork's false deception. The paintings encompass several themes and symbols that relate to personal life experiences and cultural affiliations.
My multimedia installation focuses on contemporary Australia and its relationship to the land, including not just my personal connection, but also that of my community. Developing a soundscape by gathering replies to the question, 'How do you feel connected to this land?', has profoundly enlightened me about the wide variance in how people interpret the question, while also demonstrating interconnectedness. Throughout the project the soundscape served as the cornerstone for my artistic process.
